How it scored

Scored on our fixed 5-part system — built from the consensus of field reports, video tests and hunter feedback. Each axis is an independent 0–10 score. How we score ↗

What we liked

  • Superb flat, field-point-like flight
  • Won HuntStand 2022 Editor's Choice and led in penetration
  • Compact Alcatraz ferrule is very rigid
  • Four blades cut clean and resharpen easily
  • Punched through cardboard, MDF, steel plate and cinder block in testing

Where it falls short

  • 1" cut means a smaller hole and lighter blood than wide heads
  • Tip can blunt slightly on very hard media
  • Four thin blades are best for clean shots, not bone-crushing
  • Blood on poorly-placed shots can be sparse

Flight & accuracy

The Standard is the flight reference of this group. Its short, compact head and rigid ferrule keep steering forces minimal, and it prints with field points for most shooters at hunting ranges and well beyond.

This is the head to reach for if you shoot a fast bow or want the simplest possible transition from practice points to broadheads.

Penetration

Despite four blades and the drag they imply, the Standard topped HuntStand's 2022 penetration ranking, driving through cardboard, MDF, a steel plate and even a cinder block. The compact geometry concentrates energy efficiently.

On game that translates to reliable pass-throughs, and the four-blade layout keeps the head tracking straight through tissue.

Durability & edge retention

The Alcatraz-style ferrule is essentially indestructible at hunting impacts, and the stainless blades hold up well. The one weakness noted in testing is the tip, which can blunt slightly against extremely hard media like steel or block.

For real-world bone, the head holds together and the blades are cheap and quick to replace when needed.

Blood trail

Here is the trade-off for all that flight and penetration: a 1" cut. Four blades help by adding cutting surface, but the trail is naturally lighter than what a 1 1/8"-plus head produces.

On double-lung pass-throughs you still get good blood from two exit holes, but in thick cover with a marginal hit you may work harder to track than with a wider head.

Value & who it's for

At around $45 for four blades the Standard is a strong value, and it earns its Best Flight award outright. It suits accuracy-focused hunters and anyone running a setup where tunable, predictable flight matters most.

Choose it if you prize flight and penetration over a giant hole. If blood trail is your priority, step up to the Magnum or a wider head.

How it compares

FAQ

Is the Slick Trick Standard accurate enough to shoot like a field point?

Yes — it is one of the flattest-flying fixed heads available and the reason it won our Best Flight nod. Most shooters need little tuning to match their field points.

How did the Slick Trick Standard do in penetration testing?

It led HuntStand's 2022 test, punching through cardboard, MDF, a steel plate and a cinder block to earn Editor's Choice.

Does the Slick Trick Standard throw enough blood for deer?

On well-placed pass-throughs, yes, but the 1" cut is modest. If you want heavier blood, the 1 1/8" Magnum is the better pick.

Can the Slick Trick Standard tip get damaged?

It can blunt slightly against very hard media like steel plate, but it holds up fine to typical bone and is otherwise extremely durable.

QAD Exodus

The Exodus is the value benchmark of the fixed-blade world: tough thick blades, a 1 1/4" cut, and forgiving flight for around $40. Just buy the full-blade version and check your state's barbed-broadhead rules on the swept.

G5 Striker V2

The Striker V2's ventless ferrule makes it quiet and forgiving enough to shoot with field points, and the Lutz steel is genuinely razor-keen. Just don't expect class-leading penetration or edge retention.
